“I need to grow my money fast.”

I can’t tell you how often I heard that phrase from workshop participants in the Money Masterclass sessions I deliver around the world.

As a professional, you’re right now working hard to make sure you are providing well for your family. Or else, you might have those ambitions to buy another property or go on the vacation of your dreams with your loved ones.

All the above relate to building a wealth pot—a pot that allows you to do the things you’ve always dreamt of doing.

In this blog, I am going to reveal a proven strategy that will help you learn how to grow your money fast, with little effort.

And it all lies in the power of compound interest.

What is Compounding?

Once dubbed by Albert Einstein as the 8th wonder of the world, compound interest is undoubtedly the most powerful tool that can get you to financial wealth. However, very few people know of its benefits, or they don’t believe in it enough to make the necessary effort and make it part of their financial plans.

Compound interest is when you begin earning interest on the interest you receive—this makes it possible for your money to multiply at an accelerated rate.

Let’s say you managed to save $10,000 this year and invest the sum in a fund that earns you approximately 10% interest per year. You will have $11,000 after one year. If the fund earns another 10% the next year on that $11,000, you end up with $12,100 by the end of year two. The process continues, until eventually, the original lump sum—i.e. the $10,000—will be eclipsed by the amount of interest you gained.

If you’re wondering how to grow your money fast, compounding is one of the safest, most reliable ways to do so over time. And if you’re asking yourself how can I grow my money fast without needing to work a second job or take massive risks, this is a concept you need to master.

Getting the Most Out of Compounding

Your money can compound more effectively when you give it more time to grow. That is why many finance coaches advise that the earlier you start saving and investing, the better. Your money will have more time to grow and even weather financial downturns, recessions, and periods of inflation that may otherwise erode returns over time.

There are several compound interest calculators available for free on the internet that can help you estimate how much your money can grow over a period of time. In the following example, you will see why patience is the ultimate ingredient in learning how to grow your money fast through compounding:

Jack is 30 years old and wishes to save $1 million by the age of 65 (the year he plans to retire). He can afford to save $500 per month to achieve this target, but he has already calculated that if he saves this amount regularly and puts it in a normal account in the bank, he would have $210,000 by his 65th year—quite way off his $1 million target.

But what if Jack decides to invest the $500 instead? What if he starts putting it in a balanced investment portfolio and lets it grow there over time, giving his money time and space to flourish?

With a 10% annual return, Jack would have his $1 million by the age of 60 (five years before his target retirement age).

Time is the Magic

What gives compound interest its superpower? Time! Patience is key if you want to reap the rewards of this financial tool—quitting early won’t get you far.

The earlier you start, the better. Let’s take a look at the below example:

Laura started investing €500 per month when she was 20 years old. She did this regularly for 10 years and then stopped by age 30.

On the other hand, Tim invested €1,000 per month from age 35 till age 60.

Although Laura invested less money and for just 10 years of her life, her end balance was half a million more than Tim’s (assuming an annual average 10% interest rate on her investments).

So, how can I grow my money fast if I’ve already lost time? The answer is simple: by not wasting any more of it. The best day to start was yesterday. The second-best is today.

If you have never invested, it is not too late. If you’re still in your 20s, that is optimal. But if you are in your 30s, 40s, or 50s, there is still time to reap the rewards of compounding. The key is to start now and stay consistent.
