How to Invest and Grow Your Money – Even If Crypto Scares You

Blog
Two friends standing together discussing cryptocurrency, with a rising stock chart on the left and Bitcoin and Ethereum symbols on the right – symbolising traditional vs. modern investing strategies.

You don’t need to bet big on Bitcoin to grow your wealth. But should you ignore it completely?

A friend made a fortune on crypto.
You didn’t.
Now you’re wondering if your tried-and-tested stock market strategy is too safe to grow your money fast enough.

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone. This is a real question I received recently from a cautious, yet curious, investor. His strategy? Monthly contributions to ETFs tracking the American stock market, with a sprinkle of Maltese stocks, bonds, and REITs.
His returns? A solid 30%.
His worry? That he might be missing out.

Let’s break this down.

“Am I Missing Out on Crypto Returns?”

“I’ve been investing consistently in ETFs and local stocks for years, and I’m getting about 30% returns. But when I saw my friend’s crypto gains, I started wondering if I’m playing it too safe. Am I missing out?”

First off—30% is impressive.
To put it in perspective: the long-term average return of the S&P 500 is around 10% a year. Sure, some years it dips, others it soars, but over the last 90 years, that’s the average benchmark.

So yes, you’re doing something right. In fact, very right.

But…What About Crypto?

It’s a good question. And one that’s becoming more relevant by the day.

With major asset managers like BlackRock and Fidelity launching ETFs that track Bitcoin, and whispers of more crypto ETFs coming soon… it’s no wonder more people are turning their heads.

And with Donald Trump’s return to power, a more pro-crypto stance from the US government might give the industry a tailwind.

So is it time to jump in?

Should You Invest in Crypto to Grow Your Money?

Here’s the golden rule: do your research first.

Institutions like JP Morgan and Fidelity have cautiously recommended 1–5% of your portfolio in crypto. That’s a reasonable starting point for those with the appetite for risk.

Because let’s be honest: crypto is still a wild ride.

Volatility is the name of the game. And while the upside can be exciting, the downside can be brutal. Yes, your friend may have hit a good patch. But I’ve also spoken to plenty of people who got burned.

When everything looks shiny, people tend to rush in. That’s usually when they lose.

Before You Make a Move, Read This

I get it. The fear of missing out is real.

You see someone post their crypto profits on Instagram, or overhear a colleague talking about doubling their money overnight. Suddenly, your steady, well-thought-out plan feels… boring.

But here’s the thing.

Boring builds wealth.

I’ve sat across too many clients who chased excitement and ended up losing years of progress. One particular client comes to mind—he pulled out of a perfectly healthy ETF strategy to go all-in on a hyped coin. It tanked. He was left shaken, ashamed, and further from his financial goals than when he started.

And that’s the part most people don’t talk about. The emotional cost.

Growing your money is about consistency. Patience. Alignment with your values. If you want to build long-term wealth, you need to be okay with making less noise and more progress.

That doesn’t mean you close the door on opportunities like crypto entirely. But it does mean you walk through that door fully aware, with a flashlight and a map—not just because someone else ran in shouting “jackpot!”

How to Grow Your Money Without Losing Sleep

If you’re already investing in ETFs, stocks, and REITs—and getting strong returns—you’ve laid a great foundation.

Crypto could be a small spice in your portfolio, not the main dish.

And if it doesn’t align with your risk profile or you don’t fully understand it yet? You don’t need it. There are still plenty of ways to grow your wealth steadily.

The key is clarity:

  • Know what you’re investing in.
  • Understand your risk appetite.
  • Don’t follow the herd.
  • Don’t invest in something just because your mate made a quick buck.

Final Thought

Growing your money isn’t just about chasing what’s hot. It’s about knowing your game plan and sticking to it—while staying open to learning and adapting.

If that includes learning more about crypto, great. If not, you’re still in a strong position.
