I have a talent – but it’s just a hobby.
I hear this all the time from my clients and persons I meet with.
When I tell them any passion can be monetised, many stare.
“But, it’s difficult,” they protest. “No one does it!”
I used to think the same. Gradually I realised that a rich mindset is not just about making money from investments OR from good money management — it’s about turning passion into profits, even when it feels unlikely at first.
Here I present you with a step-by-step guide to monetise your passions – including a practical table to identify the strengths you’re utilising, and the ones you’re not.
Let’s together turn an average mindset (which, yes was me just a few years ago) into a rich mindset — and start turning passion into profits, step by step.
In fact, what I teach is not just a rich mindset — but what I call a make money mindset: a shift in perspective that helps you spot opportunities where others see none.
Step 1: Ask yourself: “What Talents do I have?”
It’s strange, but we don’t think about our talents enough. We feel we are good at something, because it might even come naturally to us.
Let’s take myself as an example. Since the age of 8, I was interested in money. The piggy bank fascinated me, and seeing my money grow was something I enjoyed so much.
Then I discovered personal finances at the age of 18, and investing, trading and anything related to finances became so enjoyable that I even did a Masters Degree in Finance and Investment Banking, even though my full-time job was not in finances.
I had that gut feeling that somehow, investing in your passions will pay-off eventually.
And it did… it did.
But of course, my passion was not just money. I did an exercise to discover the whole range of talents. I sat down with a piece of paper and started jotting down: everything I enjoyed and everything I was good at. Yes… there is a difference between the things you enjoy and the things you’re good at.
Remember, anything can be turned into profit. That’s the foundation of turning passion into profits — recognising hidden value in your everyday talents.
Step 2: Identify Your Passion
The struggle is real here.
There is a problem that we sometimes fail to recognise all the passions that we have.
Not only that… many tend to forget that their hobbies, the things they love doing the most, are actually passions, and with the right mindset, they can be monetised. This is exactly where adopting a make money mindset makes all the difference — helping you take what you love and turn it into something profitable.
Let me introduce you to a Life Inventory Table.
As you can see on the left hand side one can mark the skill/gift/abilities that they believe they have. Here you can write anything, and I repeat anything. Even if you feel you are good at ‘listening’ list it down. Remember anything can be turned into profit.
Let me introduce you to my own Life Inventory, which I had filled back in 2022:
Wherever there’s a gap between what I was leveraging and what I’m truly passionate about, a clear opportunity emerges.
The essential thing is to see what from the things you enjoy the most you are not utilising/leveraging enough. When you identify these then there is the opening for you to focus on it and make that talent monetisable.
Step 3: Shifting from an Average to a Rich Mindset
In the early days one of my first clients, let’s call her Roberta for ease’s sake, met me for the session.
“I’m a teacher, and I am passionate about my work.”
“What else do you love doing?” I asked, sipping the coffee.
“Well nothing much that can be monetised, if that’s what you’re after,” she said, with a smile.
“So you’re doing something that you don’t consider monetisable.”
“Well, I like writing novels… but I don’t see that as monetisable. I mean, unless you’re JK Rowling, you don’t stand a chance right?’
And sure enough it’s difficult to earn money from novels. I mean yes, it’s possible, but I wanted to show her a possibility where she could earn money immediately.
‘Roberta… have you ever considered selling your creative writing abilities to companies. Nowadays, businesses crave storytelling flare in their corporate writing. You can write their brand stories.’
That did catch her off-guard.
‘Well, never considered that. How can I start?’
And from there I noted a shift in her motivation. She instantly became more interested, And she wanted to start… immediately.
In a matter of a few weeks, Roberta had created a Fiverr account and was successfully selling her services to corporate clients – …earning her an extra income in tandem with her full-time income.
That’s the power of a make money mindset — seeing creative talents as income-generating tools, not just passions.
Now that is what I call a real shift from an average to a rich mindset.
